Colour and Spirit, 2004
RD&E Hospital (Wonford), Exeter, Devon
Textiles and Batiks by Lucy Mason and Ruth Lee

‘Most of the pieces in this exhibition take a single element of the natural world and explore its potential symbolism, its mythic quality. This is achieved by simplification or enlargement and the use of strong colour, which let us look at it in a new way.

The natural world surrounds us and so is often ‘not seen’. We take it for granted, when in fact it is amazing and speaking volumes to us about the nature of God; I aim to show that the ordinary is in fact extraordinary.’

Julia Mills Gallery, 2003-04
Porthleven, Cornwall
A selection of pieces inspired by coastal textures.

Light and Landscape, 2003
Alnwick Playhouse, Northumberland
Batiks and Textiles by Ruth Lee and Lucy Mason

Press release reads: Ruth Lee, a local Alnwick artist and Lucy Mason, based in Devon, share a common passion for landscape. From their perspectives at opposite ends of the country, this exhibition brings together two different styles and treatments with a common theme. Light and Landscape is an exploration of our immediate environment, its history and its present represented in colour and texture.

There is a profile of Lucy in Second Steps Portfolio, published 2003 and also 2004 by BCF Books, publishers of the Craft Galleries Guide.
